The Foundation
The Athanassios & Marina Martinos Welfare Foundation was founded in 2016 by Presidential Decree and is a Legal Entity in Private Law.
Aim of the Foundation is to create structures and programmes to support Society in sectors such as Health, Education, Sport, Social Solidarity, Religion and Culture.
The Foundation does not follow an open procedure of requests for donations. Its actions are implemented exclusively after a proposal and decision of the Board, in accordance with its approved budget.
The public benefit work of the Martinos family is also implemented through the “Aigeas, a non-profit civilian company of cultural and public benefit project”, which has been active in Greece and abroad since 2015, demonstrating a rich work in areas similar to those of the Foundation.
Culture
The enhancement of the cultural heritage, the preservation of historical memory, as well as the safeguarding of the cultural environment are among AMMF’s main fields of action. Projects and actions towards safeguarding the cultural identity, such as the restoration of a monument, the support of archaeological excavations, the foundation of museums, libraries and cultural institutions, the funding of publications, fall under this category.
Religion
Greece has a rich religious history and a great number of Greek-Orthodox monuments that are part of its cultural heritage. The construction, renovation or preservation of churches and religious monuments are some of the key areas of action of the Foundation. In this field, the AMMF also supports traditional celebrations and religious cultural expressions that are part of the Greek intangible heritage and play a significant role in the preservation of our national identity.
Education
Being the cornerstone of socio-economic and cultural development, public education is one of the AMMF’s top priorities. In this context, the foundation takes initiatives with a view to support equal access to quality education. Through its donations, the foundation contributes to the maintenance, renovation or even construction of school units and improves the quality of teaching materials. At the same time, AMMF encourages creative educational programs that promote intercultural cooperation and strengthen the bonds with educational organizations around the world.
Health
Health and the right of access to preventive medical services is a supreme social good that must be guaranteed for all. The Foundation focuses on strengthening public health by carrying out infrastructure projects that contribute to the upgrading of services in public hospitals. In addition, it donates specialised medical equipment, renovates health centres and modernises hospital units.
Sports
Being well aware of the value and benefits of physical exercise, AMMF supports the construction or renovation of sport facilities and enhances the infrastructures of nonprofit societies or clubs. In addition, the Foundation provides financial support to sport events and programs, with a view to promoting the athletic ideal and the sense of fair play.
