The history of the Agios Panteleimon General Hospital of Nikaia goes back to the Asia Minor Catastrophe and the settling of refugee populations on the outskirts of Piraeus. On the initiative of the ‘American Ladies’, a polyclinic was set up in makeshift huts, which within a decade expanded and became a General Hospital. In 1934 it had 60 beds and was known as the ‘Refugee Hospital of Nea Kokkinia’, while one year later it was renamed as a ‘Model Popular Hospital’ (Protypo Laiko Nosokomeio). In 1937, due to the growing healthcare needs in the wider area of Piraeus, construction of a new hospital commenced, with the name ‘General Hospital of Piraeus’, which operated until 1952. Within 15 years it numbered 600 beds. In 2001, the hospital was renamed the Agios Panteleimon General Hospital of Nikaia.

Today it is one of the largest infirmaries in Greece, covering the medical needs of a large percentage of the population of Attica. Conscious of the major role this Hospital plays and the constant needs for improvement of its infrastructure and modernization of its medical-technological equipment, the Non-profit Civil Company AEGEAS made a particularly important donation for the functioning of a new Digital Operating Theatre.

DONATION OF THE NON-PROFIT CIVIL COMPANY AEGEAS

  • Renovation of the space for the Digital Operating Theatre

The donation involved the total reconstruction of an existing operating theatre and two auxiliary spaces of the Surgical Wing in the second storey, in readiness for the installation of the new Digital Operating Theatre. The whole project was carried out in accordance with the most modern specifications for the functioning of operating theatres. On completion of the works and with the installation of the special medical and technological equipment, the Hospital now has an ultramodern Digital Operating Theatre for Endoscopic Thoracic Surgery.
