Works of art and not mere mementoes of the Greek Revolution were displayed with care and respect in the Museum of Cycladic Art, conveying to us the heroism and the ideological world of 1821, as well as everyday life at that time, the human dimension of the Struggle. The exhibition in the Stathatos Mansion and the accompanying bilingual catalogue titled ANTIQUARIANISM AND PHILELLENISM: The Thanassis and Marina Martinos Collection, constituted a special expression of homage, in celebration of the bicentennial of the Greek War of Independence. Presented for the first time were 60 exhibits relating to the Revolution and to Philhellenism, the efforts of Europeans on behalf of the Greeks, under the curation of art historian Fani-Maria Tsigakou and Professor Nikolaos Chr. Stampolidis, Director of the Acropolis Museum.
