The Neaniki Estia (= Youth Hearth) of Megaris, known by its initials NEM, is a sports association based in Megara, Attica. It was founded in 1974 by Alkiviadis Benardis. Its logo features a burning torch against a basketball, which is the association’s flagship sport, with sectors for adult and younger players. The NEM’s official base is the Indoor Gym of the 8th Primary School of Megara. Alongside sports and athletics, it has developed cultural actions, organizing theatrical performances and colloquia for the town of Megara. In January 1976 the Hellenic Basketball Federation officially recognized the NEM as a member, while in the 1979-1980 season it became the town’s first team to take part in the official HBF championship. Later, sectors were set up for women’s basketball and ping-pong, concurrently holding indoor championships that were innovative at the time.
