The study proposes a Master Plan for the enhancement, protection and restoration of the town of Loutra Aidipsos, which will be the foundation for economic and social reinvigoration. It focuses on Loutra Aidipsos because this is the largest spa town in Greece, with over 2,500 permanent residents and a seasonal population of as many as 7,000. The spa town, with 9 certified therapeutic springs and 29 listed recent monuments, is the main tourism resource for North Euboea. In brief, the master plan sets five thematic axes of interventions: traffic management, enhancement of the building assets and the town’s identity, creation of a new focal point in the area of the old town with axes for the recovery of the historical centre and the enhancement of the special natural environment, and last, a series of incentives for the private sector and the local society. The long-term goal is for Loutra to become the driving force of the economic and social revival of North Euboea, a pilot project for the development of ground-breaking and sustainable model of remedial and wellbeing tourism.
